ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To systematically evaluate the efficacy of Shengmai San in patients with cardiotoxicity of anthracyclines.@*METHODS@#Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were identified by searching China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase Databases from the inceptions until December 2020. The Cochrane Handbook was used to evaluate the risk of bias in the included studies. Data analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 software.@*RESULTS@#Totally 19 RCTs with 2,331 participants were included in this review. Results showed that in improving arrhythmia (13 RCTs, n=1,877, RR=0.37, 95%CI 0.25 to 0.52, P<0.00001), the treatment group was superior to the control group. In terms of reducing left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD, 2 RCTs, n=128, MD=-0.79, 95%CI -0.93 to -0.65, P<0.00001) and left ventricular end systolic diameter (LVESD, 2 RCTs, n=128, MD=-0.58, 95%CI -0.82 to -0.35, P<0.00001), the treatment group was also better than the control group. In reducing myocardial enzymes such as creatine kinase (CK) [(3 RCTs, n=256, SMD=-0.80, 95%CI -1.16 to -0.44, P<0.0001), (2 RCTs, n=126, SMD=-0.62, 95%CI -0.98 to -0.26, P=0.0007)], the treatment group was superior to the control group.@*CONCLUSION@#Shengmai San has a positive effect on the treatment of cardiotoxicity from anthracyclines. However, in the future, it is still necessary to conduct high-quality RCTs to verify its efficacy.

ABSTRACT

Shengmai San was first recorded in Medical Origin and Insights, a medical book written by ZHANG Yuan\|su. Shengmai San composed of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Ophiopogonis Radix and Schiandrae Chinensisin Fructus. Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma as the monarch drug in the prescription has effects in invigorating vigour potently, and promoting production of body fluid to quench thirst. Ophiopogonis Radix as a sweet-cold minister drug has effects in nourishing yin, clearing heat and generating fluid and moistening lung to stop cough in the prescription. Both medicines are combined to have a good effect in replenishing Qi. Schiandrae Chinensisin Fructus is an adjuvant medicine, with effects in acid astringency, retaining Yin with astringent and hidroschesis. Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma has effects in strengthening the healthy energy, and Ophiopogonis Radix has a effect in retaining yin with astringent. It is a classic prescription for treating deficiency of Qi and Yin. With the in-depth research of modern medical experts, it is found that Shengmai San not only has a significant therapeutic effect on cardiovascular diseases, central nervous system diseases and endocrine system diseases, but also a good effect on digestive system diseases, immune system and hematopoietic system diseases and shock. As China's aging population, irregular diet and other problems become increasingly serious, the incidences of cardiovascular diseases, senile dementia, cerebral infarction, diabetes, liver dysfunction and other diseases have become higher and younger, which is a serious threat to human health. Therefore, by consulting a large number of domestic literatures, the authors respectively elaborated the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Shengmai San and its modified prescriptions on the above diseases, with the aim to reveal the target and mechanism of this prescription on the above diseases, provide theoretical basis for better treatment of the above diseases and promote the clinical application of this prescription. In addition, it provides reference ideas for the research of other classical famous formula.

ABSTRACT

To study the regulation effect of Sheng-mai San (SMS)on intestinal dysbacteriosis, ceftriaxone sodium was used to induce intestinal dysbacteriosis in vitro, the bacteria were cultured in the selective medium and enu-merated by plat counting method, and the short chain fatty acid were also analyzed .The results showed that SMS (16.5,11.2,5.5 mg/mL)could significantly inhibit the proliferation of potentially harmful bacteria such as Enterococci,Enterobacteriaceae and promote the proliferation of Lactobacillus and Clostridum.Compared with the model group, the proliferation of Enterococci and Enterobacteriaceae was inhibited by 24.9% and 19.1%,while the proliferation of Lactobacillus and Clostridum was increased by 22.3% and 25.8% respectively in the middle-concentration of SMS group (11.2 mg/mL)at 24 h.Meanwhile,SMS in different concentration significantly increase the accumulation of acetic acid and propionic acid generated by gut microbes which could significantly inhibit the proliferation of harmful bacteria. And SMS showed prebiotic effects on intestinal microflora imbalance induced by antibiotics in vitro.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the preventive effects of Shengmai San (SMS) on oxidative damage in mentally stressed mice.METHODS: An oxidative stress mouse model was established by moustache-removed. Protein carbonyl and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) formation were determined as the oxidative stress markers.RESULTS: (1)Moustache-cut was founded to significantly enhance the behavioral movements of mice, especially large movements (movement 2 and rearing). SMS pre-administration inhibited the accelerated movements. (2) Protein carbonyl was increased in brain, heart, liver and kidney. TBARS in liver and heart increased in the moustache-cut mice, but SMS pretreatment inhibited the increased protein carbonyl and TBARS.CONCLUSION: SMS has the preventive effects on oxidative damage induced by emotional stress.
